Abstract

This essay proposes points of convergence between interdisciplinarity and the history of science, understood as a field where the three traditional domains of knowledge—science, the social sciences, and the humanities—intersect. We revisit the conceptual foundations of interdisciplinarity and examine its disciplinary and institutional development. We then turn to the historiographical evolution of the history of science, particularly throughout the twentieth century. This exploration allows us to reflect on the potentially interdisciplinary nature of the history of science, considered as a specialized branch of history that engages with scientific paradigms and maintains a ductility in the production of knowledge.
